Well Buzznet... it has been a long time since I have last written a blog post on here. So here is my write up on some random thoughts/rambling about music and the shows I attended this past year!
2013 turned out to be much more of a concert filled year than I would have expected, and I loved every moment of it. This year I was able to attend a variety of shows, with different types of music and different sized venues. Every show I go to, I always try to meet some one new, and I can stand by that for almost every show I attended. I love being able to meet others out there that are interested in the same sort of things that I am. I come from a town/high school that primarily was/is obsessed with country and rap (my least two favorite genres, but of course there are some good songs in there). I was always alone with the type of music that I listened and had to force at least one friend to go to a show with me.
It is so awesome to know that music connects so many of us around the country, and even the world. This past year I have met so many different people that I ended up sharing so much in common with. That is such a good feeling. It is also pretty neat to realize how different many of us are, and yet we were standing in the same line and same crowd together... and that is why I love music so much.
Music has become more than a tune spiraling through the wires of my headphones. It has become a connection to the lyrics, the passion from both the artist and the fans, the live shows, the intricate break downs that are absent from mainstream radio songs. We sometimes forget about what the heart and soul of music is all about. Music is something that can get all of us through a day, whether it be a good or bad one. Going to live shows gives me the energy or rush that I have not been able to find anywhere else. Feeing almost weightless as the crowd pushes forward when the act steps on stage, and being able to feel the pounding of the bass on my chest when inside a smaller venue.. or the unfortunate unavoidable sweaty bodies that are felt all day at outdoor arenas (sorry gross)... it is all part of it. I love every moment, the good and the bad. Live music is unreal, and it is something that I hope everyone gets to experience at least once.
In the next year, I encourage you to reach out to different styles of music. Embrace the difference. Attend more live shows, even if they are small local venues. It will be something that you will cherish for a very long time. It is good for the mind and soul to switch it up every once and a while, trust me.
This past semester for one of my college classes, I based a whole paper off of the Vans Warped Tour. While researching, I came across a quote that I have found so much connection with. I hope you do too. It is from the author, Oliver Sacks who wrote Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain. He wrote, “music can pierce the heart directly; its needs no mediation.
end of rambling/thoughts/talking/nonsense
Here is to 2014. Thanks for a great year of music, 2013. Cheers.
